Dr. Michael Nguyen

Dr. Michael Nguyen is a physician at VIP Centers of America with a clinical and academic practice focused on venous medicine. Dr. Nguyen is a highly experienced and well-respected vein specialist having treated thousands of patients.

Dr. Nguyen completed residency and advanced fellowship training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Michael Nguyen was one of the most respected Fellows at Harvard and received the prestigious “Fellow of the Year” award during his final year of training.

Upon completion of his training, Dr. Nguyen joined the Harvard faculty where his accolades included “Outstanding Teacher of the Year″ and “Mentor of the Year.” During his time at Harvard, Dr. Nguyen developed a clinical interest in venous disease. Dr. Nguyen was instrumental in introducing endovenous vein treatments to the Pain Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Nguyen has published about vein disease in the medical literature, including a textbook on minimally invasive treatments for chronic venous insufficiency. Dr. Nguyen’s work has been featured on television and print.

Dr. Nguyen believes in being innovative and staying on the cutting edge of medicine. At Harvard, Dr. Nguyen led a team of PhD candidates in developing a patented ultrasound guidance system that was subsequently selected for a prize by the Harvard School of Engineering.

At his office in New York, Dr. Nguyen routinely has physicians from across the country observing him and learning the latest techniques in endovascular venous treatment. Medtronic has made VIP Centers of America an official training site for physicians using their devices.

Dr. Namrata Khimani

With double Board-certification, Dr. Khimani brings impeccable credentials to Vein Institute & Pain Centers of America. Her focus is on pain management and venous medicine. Dr. Khimani strives to improve quality of life and functional goals for patients. She accomplishes it with comprehensive, evidence-based care. Her concentration is on minimally invasive treatments for chronic venous insufficiency, and acute and chronic pain conditions.

Dr. Khimani’s career path included:

  • Graduation from Columbia University with Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors.
  • Medical degree from Harvard Medical School, where she was awarded a grant for cancer research.
  • Residency at Columbia University Medical Center – New York Presbyterian Hospital. There she served as Chief Resident for the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
  • Advanced fellowship training at Harvard Medical School’s teaching facility, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, for interventional pain management. Here Dr. Khimani nurtured a special interest in vein disease.

She has had articles published, co-authored portions of textbooks, and presented at numerous national conferences on pain medicine and anesthesiology topics.

Dr. Khimani was recently awarded first prize by the National Cancer Pain Research Consortium for innovative research on refractory cancer related pain, conducted during her time at Harvard.

Dr. Mary So

As a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Mary So specializes in interventional pain medicine and venous medicine.

She attended medical school at New York University School of Medicine. Residency was completed at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s prestigious Weill Cornell Medical Center. She obtained advanced fellowship training through the prominent Tri-Institutional Pain Medicine program.

Dr. So received instruction and rotation at three nationally recognized hospitals:

  • New York-Presbyterian Hospital –Weill Cornell Medical Center
  • Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute
  • Hospital for Special Surgery

With this hands-on clinical background, she has developed proficiency in treating a broad range of chronic and acute issues such as arthritis, low back pain, sciatica, spinal stenosis, sports injuries, leg and joint pain, and musculoskeletal pain. Her interest in circulatory and venous medicine led to expertise in management of venous insufficiency through adoption of the latest techniques in endovascular treatment.

Dr. So is a sought-after presenter at national and international conferences, speaking on a variety of pain medicine topics. She is a published author in medical literature, including a textbook on minimally invasive treatments for chronic venous insufficiency.

Active membership in the American Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and Eastern Pain Society helps to keep her skills at peak level.
